BIO
Brian Sickle is a mixed media artist and illustrator based in Kimberley, Ontario.
Their practice focuses on series: works in different media on paper that explore various themes that attract the artists interest. They work primarily in paper using watercolour, graphite, coloured pencil or pastels that are suitable to the theme being explored.
Their work explores Series such as Nihonga Flower Painting: exploring Japanese watercolour paintings; Wild!: portraits of the wild animals and birds that inhabit the Beaver Valley; Farm!: portraits of the beasts and birds that are raised on our farms and; the Orchid Family: portraits of the worlds’ most cultivated flowers.
They have formal training as an Architect.
Their work has been exhibited in Art in the Valley 2025; Visiting Artist Series Owen Sound Artists Coop June 2026.
Currently, they are interested in Orchids (the result of a bitter winter and a serious illness) among the largest families of flowering plants and the most beguiling, which is currently being worked on in the studio.

Artist Statement
My work is preoccupied with themes that attract me and have the potential to suggest a Series that then dictates the method of representation and media. Series have included: The Fungus among Us (avid forager); our Millenial Friend: Tree Portraits (on our property) and Wild! (portraits of birds and beasts viewed on our property of hiking).
