Chari Cohen
Ceramic Artist who creates work that reflects the wonders found in nature
BIO
Chari Cohen is a ceramic artist who was based in Toronto prior to moving to the Beaver Valley in 2020. Her early years in southern Alberta, near the mountains and prairies, play an important role in her art and now the Beaver Valley is becoming her most recent muse. Her work lies between the two worlds of functional ceramics and sculpture. She strives to create objects that reflect the wonders found in the wilderness and in the seams where humans and nature interact.
She received her ceramic education at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia, majoring in ceramics, and continued her studies at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario where she was awarded the Joan Bennett Award in Crafts and Design. Her exhibitions credits include two solo shows, at Medalta Ceramic Centre in Alberta and at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Centre in Japan as well as numerous juried exhibitions including True Nordic at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, the One of a Kind Exhibition, two travelling Fusion Fireworks exhibitions and the Mississauga Living Arts Centre. She has also exhibited her work at the Propeller Gallery, John B. Aird Gallery, York Quay at Harbourfront, the Hamilton Art Gallery, The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, the shops at the Gardiner Museum and Art Gallery of Ontario. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of Burlington and private collections in England, Israel and Thailand.
